McDougall Metalworks | GTA Welding, Fabrication, and Repair
Structural steel is responsible for more than simply holding something up. It forms part of a larger system that carries loads, transfers forces and maintains the integrity of a building, platform, equipment support or other structure.
McDougall Metalworks provides structural repair and fabrication for residential, commercial and industrial applications where existing steel needs to be repaired, reinforced, replaced or newly fabricated.
The work is approached with close attention to the existing structure, the required application, the connections and the finished installation.
Existing structural steel can deteriorate, become damaged, be modified over time or require reinforcement to accommodate changing conditions.
Repair work can include:
Deteriorated or corroded structural steel
Cracked or failed connections
Damaged beams, columns and framing
Structural brackets and supports
Platforms and access structures
Reinforcement of existing members
Replacement of damaged sections
Structural modifications
Repairs following impact or other damage
The objective is to restore or improve the structural component without treating the damaged area in isolation from the surrounding structure.
New structural components can be fabricated for construction, replacement, modification or installation within an existing structure.
This can include:
Beams and framing
Columns and supports
Platforms
Structural stairs
Bracing
Equipment supports
Base plates
Connection plates
Structural brackets
Custom load-bearing assemblies
Fabrication can be completed from engineering drawings, project specifications or defined site requirements, with the work produced to suit the dimensions, connections and installation conditions of the project.
Structural repair is often more demanding than new fabrication because the work has to be performed within conditions that already exist.
Existing members may be carrying load, dimensions may differ from original drawings, previous modifications may be present, and corrosion or deterioration may extend beyond what is immediately visible.
Where required, the work can involve site measurement, removal and replacement of affected sections, reinforcement, connection repair or staged fabrication and installation.
The priority is to complete the work without losing sight of the existing structural system and how the repaired component fits back into it.
Where a project requires engineering design, calculations, sealed drawings, specific welding procedures, inspection, testing or certification, those requirements are incorporated into the project scope before fabrication proceeds.
McDougall Metalworks works from the applicable engineering and project requirements and focuses on accurate fabrication, qualified welding and proper execution of the physical work.
Structural problems can have more than one viable solution.
Depending on the condition and application, the appropriate approach may be to repair the existing member, reinforce it, replace a localized section or fabricate an entirely new component.
The decision is based on the actual condition, intended use, surrounding structure, project requirements and long-term practicality—not simply the quickest way to close the damaged area.
